I try REALLY hard to always be positive...I really do...but, when anybody takes a look at our economy, they have to frown just a little bit.
Some BIG changes are coming as we get into the election year and especially, the years AFTER the election in November.
Things are gonna get tougher when it comes to doing business in Elkins...or ANYWHERE in the U.S. If the Democrats elect their candidate to the presidency, you can be sure of, at least, losing a TON of business incentives and PROBABLY paying higher taxes.
If a Republican gets elected, things aren't gonna be that rosy either! Chances are, they'll be fighting tooth and nail with the Democrats and nothing will ever get done...AGAIN!
The only thing WE can do, as business people in Elkins is to ...What? Cut Back? Lay people off? Stop advertising? Close the doors?
Unfortunately, some business owners will do just that! And that's a damn shame.
There IS a way to make it through these tough times that are coming down the road. And, not just survive, but actually THRIVE!
That's what I'll be talking about as we go.

NOW it's gonna start!
Over the last 4 weeks I've been doing some pretty in-depth study on the economy of my hometown Elkins...and it ain't as pretty as it should be!
The AVERAGE median household income in Elkins is $26,906.00 while the U.S. as a whole shows an average median household income of $41,994.00! That's a BIG difference!
The average PERSON who lives in Elkins makes $17,916.00. That's better than the average in the whole state by about $1500.00, but still less than the US average of $21,587.00.
19% of our citizens live BELOW the Federal poverty level! That's almost 1 out of 5 people!
What's going on here? The area is beautiful...the people work hard and smart...the local government doesn't get in our way too much most of the time...we should be doing better!
